Letter from Governor Seay Addressing Bank Truck Robbery

On March 8, 1934, a Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond truck was robbed and the driver killed. Though no money was on the truck, thousands of checks were taken. The next day, Governor Seay, the first governor of the Richmond Fed, wrote a letter to member banks in the District outlining FRB Richmond’s response to the robbery. Of the bandits, known as the “Tri-State Gang,” three of the four were caught and convicted.
