The Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond's Baltimore office is a provider of payment services, such as check collection and cash distribution, to the financial institutions in Maryland, the metropolitan Washington D.C. area, northern Virginia, northeastern West Virginia, and southern Pennsylvania.

What We Do

Processing and clearing checks is one of the Fed's most important financial services. Check collection services are provided for banks, savings banks, savings and loan associations, and credit unions in Maryland, the District of Columbia, northern Virginia, northeastern West Virginia and southern Pennsylvania.

The Baltimore Fed ranks as the eighth largest (of forty-three) check processing offices, processing 620 million checks in 2005. The Baltimore Fed is the fifth largest check image processor, imaging about 330,000 items daily or over 80 million items annually.

Tours

Prearranged group tours offered Monday through Friday. Tours are available to students (high school and college), teachers, bankers, and community and business organizations, with a minimum of 5 persons and a maximum of 20.

Part of our mission is to increase visibility in our territory through education and community outreach. We often are asked to deliver presentations to business, civic, and educational organizations on topics ranging from the local economy to new currency.
