The Richmond Fed is the headquarters for the Fifth Federal Reserve District, which includes Maryland, D.C., Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and most of West Virginia.

What We Do

  • -Our Research Department gathers and analyzes regional economic data and helps formulate national monetary policy.
  • -Banking Supervision and Regulation, based in Richmond, supervises and regulates banks and financial holding companies headquartered in the Fifth District.
  • -Economic Education promotes financial literacy and helps the public understand the role of the Federal Reserve.
  • -Our Community Affairs program supports community development and fair and impartial access to credit.
  • -We process currency and electronic payments for banks, and we provide financial services to the U.S. Treasury.

Tours

As of March 31, tours of the Richmond Bank's Money Museum will be suspended indefinitely as we renovate our museum and lobby. In addition, Bank tours may be scheduled on a limited basis due to several construction projects now underway. Directions

The Richmond Fed is located in downtown Richmond at 701 East Byrd Street Richmond, Virginia 23219. Limited parking is available in the Bank's visitor lot, but vehicles must be registered at least 48 hours in advance.

Money Museum

Museum exhibits tell the story of money in Colonial America and the United States. Also on display are money-related artifacts and exhibits featuring primitive monies, medieval and ancient coins, and other special-interest items. The Museum also features a self-guided audio tour.
