The Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond's Money Museum is located at the Bank's headquarters in downtown Richmond. Museum exhibits tell the story of money in Colonial America and the United States. Also on display are money-related artifacts and exhibits devoted to primitive monies, medieval and ancient coins, and other special-interest items.
In 2003, the Bank added a self-guided audio tour to the museum. Developed by Dr. Jeffrey W. McClurken, Assistant Professor of History at Mary Washington College, the narratives tell interesting stories surrounding the history of the coins and currency on display. Visitors use a "Wand" held like a telephone to punch in the number listed on an exhibit and listen to the corresponding description.
