Director of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond since 2011
Robert R. Hill Jr. serves as CEO of South State Corporation and South State Bank. Having worked 19 years with South State, Hill has served in various positions since joining the bank in 1995, including chief operating officer and president. He has held his current position as CEO since 2004. South State Corporation is a bank holding company founded in 1933 with $8 billion in assets, operating 144 locations in North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia.
An active member of the community, Hill has been honored with numerous awards, including The Citadel School of Business Alvah H. Chapman Jr. Distinguished Leadership Award and Distinguished Citadel Alumnus. He was also named a Distinguished Young Alumnus by the University of South Carolina’s Moore School of Business.
Additionally, Hill has held leadership positions as a board member or officer in numerous local and regional organizations. Currently, he serves on the Board of Directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond (Charlotte Branch) and the University of South Carolina Development Foundation. Hill also serves as first vice chairman of the Board of Directors of the South Carolina Bankers Association.
A graduate of The Citadel, Hill also earned a MBA from the University of South Carolina’s Moore School of Business.
