A native of Patrick County, Virginia, Tammy Cummings received a B.S. degree in mass communications from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1985.

Mrs. Cummings joined the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond's Human Resources department as vice president in 2006 and was promoted to senior vice president in 2009. Prior to joining the Fed, she worked as corporate vice president of Human Resources at Tredegar Corporation.
