Overview

Community land trusts are an important tool for making the most of current housing market trends and preserving affordable homeownership over the long term. This pre-conference workshop at the Virginia Governor's Housing Conference will lead nonprofit organizations and local government leaders through a step-by-step workshop about how to set up and manage community land trusts. The workshop trainer, Michael Brown from the Community Land Trust Academy, will be joined by community land trust practitioners in Virginia, North Carolina and the District of Columbia who will share their experiences with different community land trust models that can work in Virginia. This interactive workshop will also help participants identify resources, potential partners and their next steps for exploring the creation of a community land trust.
