High School Fed Challenge

Quotes from Past Participants

From a student who participated in high school Fed Challenge for three years and went on to coach a high school team while he was in college:
"Coaching a Fed Challenge team three years after participating in the high school competition allowed me to relive my high school years… getting to work with the students and see them develop a real interest in the material was definitely rewarding. I use the knowledge and skills I gained from Fed Challenge everyday at work."
—David Isaacs, analyst with Deutsche Bank's Mergers and Acquisitions group in their New York office

From a student on a National Championship team who went on to intern at a Federal Reserve Bank:
"Out of the myriad activities that I participated in during high school, Fed Challenge stands out as by far the most exciting and most beneficial. First and foremost, I gained an exposure and an understanding of macroeconomics that has vaulted me past my college classmates. Not only did the textbook theories crystallize in my mind, but I can now look at world happenings through the lens of economics . If this were not enough, the competition honed my public speaking skills to the point where anything from a formal presentation to a cold call by a new professor seems like a piece of cake. I don't know yet if I want to become an economist myself, but I know that analytical thinking and economic understanding I learned will serve me well in whatever career I pursue in the working world."
—Chris Hughes, member of Severn School National Championship team

Where are they now?

Students who participate in Fed Challenge often continue their interest in economics into college. They may participate in the College Fed Challenge competition and/or major in economics. Many have received undergraduate as well as advanced degrees in economics while attending such prestigious schools as Yale, Harvard, Northwestern and the London School of Economics. Fed Challenge alumni go on to work in all sorts of interesting areas including Federal Reserve Banks, Council of Economic Advisors to the President, Goldman Sachs, Deutsch Bank and Dow Jones China correspondent for the Wall Street Journal.
