Richmond Fed Announces Appointment of Officer

Richmond, Va.

The Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond announces the following officer appointment:

Markus A. Summers has been promoted to the position of assistant vice president in the Bank’s Law Enforcement Unit. The promotion is effective June 1.

Summers joined the Fed in 2010 as senior manager of Law Enforcement in the Baltimore office. He came to the Bank from the Prince George’s County Police Department in suburban Washington, D.C., where he was deputy director. In a 20-year career with that department, Summers served as commander of the criminal investigations, narcotics enforcement and forensic services divisions.

Summers earned a bachelor’s degree in business from Excelsior College and a master’s degree in management from Johns Hopkins University. He also served five years in the U.S. Air Force.

The Richmond Fed serves the Fifth Federal Reserve District, which includes the District of Columbia, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and most of West Virginia. As part of the nation's central bank, we're one of 12 regional Reserve Banks that work together with the Federal Reserve's Board of Governors to strengthen the economy and our communities. We manage the nation's money supply to keep inflation low and help the economy grow. We also supervise and regulate financial institutions to help safeguard our nation's financial system and protect the integrity and efficiency of our payments system.
