John Weinberg, the Richmond Fed's director of research, explains the practical relevance of economics and the work of our economists.
A native of Cleveland, John Weinberg has been drawn to economics from an earlier age. "I grew up in an old industrial city which, during the time I was growing up, was experiencing a period of serious economic decline," he recalls. "When you live in an environment like that, you wonder why things are worse now than they used to be. What would improve things?"
Weinberg discusses how economics and the work of the Richmond Fed's Research Department addresses these and other questions in his video:
Weinberg has been senior vice president and research director of the Research Department since 2005. He worked at Applied Management Sciences in Silver Spring, Md., and held a faculty position at Purdue University before joining the Richmond Fed in 1992.
