Christopher J. Estes

Director of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond since 2012

Christopher J. Estes is vice president, Business Development and Advocacy, for Rebuilding Together of Washington, D.C. The organization works to preserve and revitalize low-income homes and community facilities in the nation’s capital.

Most recently, Estes was president of the National Housing Conference, a nonprofit dedicated to helping ensure safe, decent and affordable housing for all in America.

Previously, Estes served as executive director of the North Carolina Housing Coalition, a statewide nonprofit membership organization that provides advocacy and resource information on affordable housing for low- to moderate-income North Carolinians. Earlier, he worked for CAHEC, a regional tax-credit equity syndicator; DHIC, a nonprofit affordable housing developer in Raleigh, North Carolina; and several other area nonprofits.

Estes graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he double majored in economic and industrial relations. He also holds two master’s degrees from UNC-Chapel Hill from the School of Social Work with a concentration in community practice and from the Department of City and Regional Planning with a concentration in housing and community development.

Estes serves on the board of directors of the National Low Income Housing Coalition. He served on the Richmond Fed’s Charlotte Branch Board of Directors in 2012 and has served on the Bank’s Baltimore Branch Board of Directors since 2013.
