Director of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond since 2010
Rick Morgan is the regional president at Sandy Spring and in addition to market leadership responsibility also manages the bank’s Small Business Administration programs. He was the co-founder, president and chief executive officer of CommerceFirst Bancorp and its subsidiary CommerceFirst Bank, which merged into Sandy Spring Bank in June 2012.
Morgan has 42 years of banking and financial management experience. He began his career with Marine Midland Bank (now HSBC) in Buffalo, N.Y., in commercial lending after college and active U.S. Army duty. He served in leadership commercial lending roles at Maryland National Bank (now Bank America), and he was a founding director, president and CEO of Annapolis National Bank (now Bank Annapolis). He also served as director of economic development for two Anne Arundel County executives.
His numerous community and government awards include being named twice as Maryland’s “Financial Services Leader of the Year” by the U.S. Small Business Administration.
Morgan’s industry, civic and community leadership includes roles with the Anne Arundel Health System, Atlantic Central Bankers Bank, the Maryland Economic Development Association and the Annapolis and Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce. He also has been involved with the BWI Business Partnership, the United Way for Anne Arundel County and the Anne Arundel Community College Foundation. His local and state government appointments include the Neighborhood Business Development Loan Program within Maryland’s Department of Housing and Anne Arundel County’s General Development Plan Committee.
Morgan earned a bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
