Reinventing Our Communities: Investing in Opportunity

Investing in Opportunity

Mon., Oct. 1, 2018 - Wed., Oct. 3, 2018
8:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Hilton Baltimore, Baltimore, MD

At the heart of our community development mission is the goal of helping neighborhoods and individuals to reach their full potential and to share in the vitality of the U.S. economy. Investing in opportunity requires building and mobilizing four types of capital as a means to promote economic mobility: financial, human, physical and social capital. This conference will focus on all four.

This year’s event is cosponsored by the Federal Reserve Banks of Philadelphia and Richmond and the Johns Hopkins 21st Century Cities Initiative. View the conference agenda to see the lineup of plenaries and diverse workshops.

Cosponsors also include the Federal Reserve Banks of Atlanta, Chicago, Cleveland, Minneapolis, New York and St. Louis, the Annie E. Casey Foundation, Enterprise and FHLBank Pittsburgh.

Richmond Fed leaders are taking part throughout the conference:

  • Tom Barkin, president, will give keynote remarks on October 2.
  • Matt Martin, senior vice president and Charlotte regional executive, will give introductory remarks and moderate a panel called “Poverty to Prosperity: Transformation in America’s Urban and Rural Economies” on October 2.
  • Jeanne Milliken Bonds, senior manager, regional community development, will lead a case study analysis of East Baltimore reinvestment as part of the CRA Learning Lab on October 1.
  • Peter Dolkart, regional community development manager for Maryland and Washington, D.C., will lead the East Baltimore neighborhood tour on October 1.
