Maryland Firms Reported Moderate Growth in October

Overview

Firms in Maryland reported moderate growth in October according to the latest survey by the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond. While survey respondents continued to see growth overall, many indicators suggested that it was more sluggish in October than in September.

The sales index remained positive, although it dropped from 26 in September to 13 in October, indicating slower sales growth than in the prior month. The availability of skills needed index fell from −8 to −17. In contrast, firms noted increased growth in wages and business services expenditures.

Maryland firms reported increased growth in prices for both inputs and outputs in October, and they expect to see prices increasing at a faster rate in the coming months.
