Brian Ferrell

Associate Quantitative Analyst

Brian Ferrell is an associate quantitative analyst in the Supervision, Regulation and Credit department. He is currently working on the use of Natural Language Processing (NLP) tools for supervisory purposes, as well as building and automation tasks for risk and surveillance products. His research interest is in NLP and includes semantic search, relation extraction, fine-tuning strategies for transformer models and applying these methods in real-world settings.

Prior to joining the Richmond Fed, Ferrell worked for the Virginia Commonwealth University as a research analyst building NLP models for text classification.

Ferrell earned his bachelor’s degree in business management and master's degree with a decision analytics concentration and is pursuing a master's degree in economics and a doctorate in computer science with an NLP concentration from Virginia Commonwealth University.
