The Cherokee in North Carolina and Oklahoma have followed different economic paths since the Removal Act of 1830 tore the tribe apart. Tourism is a major industry for those living in North Carolina, while in Oklahoma manufacturing and retail trade dominate in the 14-county area within the jurisdiction of the Cherokee Nation.
