Gift Drives Help Make Holidays Special

Katya supports the holiday gift drive

The Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond has a public service mission, and around this time of year, we make it a priority to serve the public hands-on. Around our District, our employees have come together to give back to those in our community in need.

In November, we wrapped up our 2018 Step Up campaign, where employees pledged to donate over $250,000 to the United Way. Our SRC team celebrated Thanksgiving with their Days of Giving, a series of volunteer events in which the department helped promote financial literacy and meet housing and food needs through organizations such as Junior Achievement and Housing Families First.

In December, our focus was on holiday drives.

This month, our employees led several drives to provide people in our communities with a happy holiday season. In Richmond, we continued our tradition of participating in the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree and Holiday Stockings. Employees chose an Angel from the tree or filled a holiday stocking for a family in need. Together, the Richmond team donated hundreds of toys to brighten the holiday season for families in our communities. Donations included bikes, helmets, baby dolls, board games and more.

We also celebrated the Richmond Grand Illumination this year with a pre-party, which featured a craft station to write holiday cards for soldiers.  Employees who donated two canned food items to Feed More received glow sticks to help celebrate the illumination of downtown.
Our Baltimore colleagues also stuffed stockings for the Salvation Army. Our employees’ donations quickly filled 30 stockings with toys leftover, which were also donated.

Our Charlotte branch also featured an Angel Tree and Silver Bell tags this month. Employees could take a packet with a bag, tie and label and return it filled with new, unwrapped items.

The holidays are the perfect time to reflect on all that we have to be thankful for, and we are thankful to serve the Fifth District. From our Fed Family to yours, we wish you a happy holiday season and bright New Year!
