The College Fed Challenge

College Fed Challenge

The College Fed Challenge is an academic competition where teams of students research and analyze economic conditions and present their analysis including a recommendation for monetary policy. The College Fed Challenge competition can increase students’ awareness and understanding of the unique role of the Federal Reserve in the economy and enhance research, presentation and critical thinking skills.

Given the disruptions caused by COVID-19, the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, along with the other co-sponsoring Federal Reserve Banks, the Board of Governors and regional planning universities have made changes to the structure of the College Fed Challenge. These changes are designed to ensure the 2020 competition can be held successfully, with the greatest structural change being that the 2020 competition will be conducted as a virtual academic competition.

Teams from participating colleges and universities located in the Fifth Federal Reserve District will compete virtually in the divisional competition organized by the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond. The top team from each division will advance to participate in the regional round of the competition, with the winner going on to compete in the final national round organized by the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System.

To register for the competition, please visit the College Fed Challenge 2020 Rules and Steps page on the Board of Governors website.
