Our Work in Our Communities
At the Richmond Fed, we’re driven by our public service mission to strengthen the economy and our communities by fostering the stability, integrity and efficiency of our nation's monetary, financial and payments systems.
As part of our work, we regularly engage with business and civic leaders, educators, financial institutions, policymakers, and community members living and working in the Federal Reserve’s Fifth District, which includes Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, most of West Virginia and Washington, D.C.

How We Engage in Our Communities
Business, Civic and Community Leaders
We regularly connect with business, community and civic leaders to understand local economic conditions and to exchange economic updates and ideas.
Our President and Regional Research teams frequently travel across our region to gather “on-the-ground” economic insights to help inform monetary policy decisions, and our Community Development team regularly connects with community partners in low- to moderate-income and other underserved areas, like rural communities and smaller towns, to help improve economic outcomes.
Additionally, our Boards of Directors and Advisory Councils, including business, civic and community leaders from across the Fifth District, provide diverse perspectives on local economic conditions and issues and help strengthen our connection to the communities we serve.
Educators and Students
Our Economic Education team works with educators, students and the public to promote consumer protection and improve economic outcomes by strengthening economic decision-making and understanding of the economy.
Financial Institutions
Our Banking Supervision team works with Fifth District financial institutions, including community and regional banks, to promote the safety and soundness of our nation’s financial institutions as well as to ensure financial institutions are protecting consumers.
Policymakers and Government Officials
Our Government Affairs team engages with lawmakers to enhance their understanding of the Federal Reserve and share research and analysis about economic policies and issues of interest to our region.
