Evening with the Fed: The Role of Community Colleges in Our Economy

Join us for a professional development program presented by the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond and SC Economics.

Student loan debt has been in the news because it has reached record levels. And due to concerns over affordability of higher education, there has been broad discussion nationally about making community colleges free.

To explore these issues, Richmond Fed Senior Policy Economist Urvi Neelakantan and Regional Economist Laura Ullrich will discuss the role of community colleges in today’s economy, who these schools serve, their affordability, and the opportunities they provide for workforce development.

Attendees will also hear from SC Economics and the Richmond Fed’s Economic Education team about classroom resources that help students explore possible career and education paths and about other upcoming programs.

Evening with the Fed is a professional development opportunity for educators to hear about current topics in economics and personal finance. Each program consists of a lecture or panel from subject matter experts, followed by a sharing of resources that educators can use with their students. Evening with the Fed is presented by the Richmond Fed in partnership with local organizations engaged in economic and personal finance education.
